Koppal: The Public Works Department (PWD), which has not done anything for the development of the main in-roads in Kushtagi Town despite the public’s hue and cry, has now began the patch work overnight.

Ahead of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s visit to Kushtagi on Wednesday October 12 for the Janotsava programme, the public’s move to develop the road has triggered public anger.

The Sindanur-Hemmadaga State Highway in front of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Basaveshwara Circle limits of the Town for the past four to five years had worn out. Pedestrians, bikers and motorists have suffered while commuting on this road. There have been numerous protests demanding development of the road and the installation of a divider on the said road. The PWD which was not bothered about the development of the road at the time, has now made the public angry by saying that it does not belong to us.

In view of the arrival of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday, the asphalting work was carried out overnight on Saturday October 8. The work was stopped late in the night following public outcry over the Public Works Department’s dubious stand.

When Municipal President Gangadharaswamy Hiremath and PWD officials, who reached the spot, tried to explain, they did not budge, while CPI Ningappa Rudrappagol and PSI Mounesh Rathod intervened and took some youth into custody. Then the work was carried out overnight in police bandobast.
