Raichur: In a sudden decision, which is expected to trigger a controversy, the state higher education department replaced the special officer of proposed Raichur university.
According to the sources, the state government replaced its special officer Prof. Muzaffar Assadi from the political science department of University of Mysore (UoM) with Dr. G.Kotreshwar.
Interestingly, Kotreshwar is also from the UoM and is serving the commerce department.
If sources are to be believed, new special officer was appointed through an oral order and now the replacement is being looked at from a political point of view as Assadi is considered as very close to former CM Siddaramaiah.
This development is expected to trigger a new controversy as there is no earlier precedent of changing the special officer of an university.
Professor Muzaffar Assadi took charge on April 2, 2018 as the special officer at Raichur.
The legal tenability of the appointment of Assadi too was under scanner as it was said that he was appointed as a special officer citing an Act that does not exit. He was appointed under Karnataka Universities Bill-2017, which was pending before the Governor.
