Raichur: A newborn was allegedly declared dead by a private hospital doctor on Saturday May 14 but was later found to be alive while being taken for a funeral by family members.

The incident occurred in the Raichur district’s Turvihal town.

According to sources, Amaramma, Erappa’s wife, gave birth to a girl on May 7 at the Government Hospital in Turvihal. As the newborn was anaemic and the hospital lacked facilities, the doctors urged the parents to take their baby to Sindhanoor Taluk government hospital for further treatment. On May 10, the couple, however, admitted the baby to a private hospital. Doctors declared the baby dead after treating him till May 14 (Saturday).

While on the way to the funeral, a family member noticed the infant moving and alerted the parents, who took the baby to the government hospital.

The doctor there confirmed that the baby was alive. The baby was transferred to a private hospital in Sindhanoor, where she is still receiving treatment.
