Vijayanagara: A hotel in Hampi was completely gutted in a cooking gas explosion on the night of Thursday October 27 but fortunately there was no loss of life.
The incident took place when a cylinder exploded at a hotel in Janata Plot in Hampi and firefighters rushed to the spot and placed some of the cylinders in the hotel at safer places to avert a major mishap. By that time, the hotel, including cooking, furniture and other accessories, had been completely gutted in the fire and only the burnt remains were left.
The fire first broke out in a cloth shop next to the hotel and then the hotel and marriage hall.
The tourists, who had been staying overnight in hotels on Janata Plot after a cylinder exploded in the hotel, ran away in panic and took shelter on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. The family members in the neighbourhood have threw water from the water tanks on top of the houses so that their houses do not catch fire. Due to the punctuality of the Police and Fire Brigade Personnel, the fire stopped spreading to adjoining houses and hotels.
A case has been registered at Hampi Police Station.
