Vijayanagara: Due to incessant rains water accumulated in the ponds and it got difficult to take the body to the cremation ground at Harappanahalli Kunchuru Kere Thanda in the District on Saturday October 22.

The rains have resulted in more water accumulating in the ponds and lakes, disrupting the cremation. The villagers struggled to cross the pit carrying the body of the deceased woman, Shantabai, a resident of Thanda, to the crematorium. This is because there is no separate place in the village to bury the dead body.

In Kunchuru Gram Panchayat limits which has 2000 population , does not have a suitable place to bury people if they die. The villagers requested the Taluk Administration to provide a separate burial ground.

Many, including Lambani community leader Teekya Naik, demanded that the land belonging to the Government in the village should be facilitated for burial of dead bodies. Responding to the request of the villagers, Harappanahalli Tahasildar Shivakumar Biradar instructed the Village Accountant to give land to burial immediately. This has fulfilled a long-term demand of the villagers.
