Karnataka Postal Circle to Launch 32 Integrated Delivery Centres by July 1
In a significant step to enhance the efficiency of its delivery services, the Karnataka Postal Circle plans to open 32 Integrated Delivery Centres across the state by July 1. This initiative aims to boost public convenience by increasing doorstep deliveries from the current single delivery to two deliveries per day.
Karnataka, which is home to 58 head post offices and 1,741 sub post offices, currently sees about half of its sub post offices engaged in parcel and letter deliveries. With this new system, the postal department hopes to improve delivery timelines and efficiency. Chief Postmaster General of Karnataka, S Rajendra Kumar, shared that 16 of the 32 new centres would be located in Bengaluru. The newly launched centres will cater to multiple pin codes from a single facility, thus addressing issues caused by incorrect pin code usage.
The introduction of automation and mechanization at these centres will streamline processes. “We aim to offer two deliveries per day, similar to what major e-commerce providers do,” Kumar stated. The centres will operate within existing larger post offices, referred to as ‘Brownfield centres,’ with plans to expand to smaller locations such as Doddanekkundi and Chandra Layout.
The move is part of a broader nationwide effort to modernize the postal system and compete effectively with private courier services and e-commerce companies, which operate even on holidays.
