Mysore/Mysuru: Due to intense rainfall in Kodagu, part of the Western Ghats, the District Administration has advised tourists to postpone their trips to popular destinations, particularly waterfalls. Kodagu’s renowned spots such as Iruppu Falls, Abbey Falls, Mallalli Falls, Chelavara Falls, Chiklihole Dam, Kote Abbey Falls, and Surlabbi Falls are currently facing dangerous conditions.
The region, known for its monsoon tourism, attracts visitors from Mysuru and Bengaluru eager to experience the dramatic beauty of its waterfalls. However, recent heavy rains have increased the risk of accidents. Tourists often ignore safety warnings and venture into the waterfalls for selfies and videos, leading to several incidents where individuals have been swept away by strong currents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Kodagu until yesterday, with an orange alert in place for the coming days. Similar heavy rainfall is impacting tourist areas like Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga, prompting authorities to recommend postponing visits until August 16.
The District Administration has not yet issued formal advisories, but travelers are strongly urged to avoid Kodagu during this period to ensure their safety. The warning aims to prevent further accidents and ensure that both tourists and locals remain safe amidst the severe weather conditions.
