₹27.62 lakh looted from ATM in early morning raid, CCTV blinded with paint
In a bold ATM robbery in Karnataka’s Kolar district, unidentified miscreants decamped with ₹27.62 lakh in cash after breaking into a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM kiosk early Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 4:30 am within the Ghulpet Police Station limits. The ATM kiosk, notably left unguarded, became an easy target for the criminals. Using gas cutters, the culprits pried open the ATM’s cash box and escaped with the money.
To prevent identification, the robbers cleverly sprayed black paint on the CCTV cameras inside the kiosk, rendering the surveillance footage useless. Moreover, police revealed that the ATM’s internal alarm system had been non-functional at the time, allowing the theft to go undetected for crucial minutes.
Kolar Superintendent of Police Nikhil B confirmed the heist and said, “The culprits used gas cutters to access the ATM’s inner chamber and made away with ₹27.62 lakh. We are examining all possible angles and gathering footage from surrounding CCTV cameras.”
An FIR has been registered, and police teams are tracking all leads to trace the gang behind the meticulously planned crime.
