Fatal Accident on National Highway 50 Claims Four Lives in Koppal

A tragic incident unfolded on Friday night near Hosalingapur in Koppal taluk of Karnataka as a private bus collided with a tractor on National Highway 50, resulting in four fatalities and leaving 18 others injured, as confirmed by a police official.


The collision caused several individuals to fall from the tractor, with three fatalities occurring at the scene and one person succumbing to injuries during hospital treatment. Among the deceased were Basavaraja (22), Tejas (22), and Durugamma (65) from Karamudi village, Yalaburga taluk, Koppal district, along with Kondappa (60) from Thimmapura village, Gadag district.

According to Koppal Police, Shivappa, a resident of Karamudi village, had taken 30 relatives to Huligemmadevi temple in Koppal taluk on Thursday via tractor. The group had performed prayers at the temple and was returning home when the tragic accident occurred.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at Koppal District Hospital, with two individuals reported to be in critical condition. Superintendent of Police Yashoda Vantagodi visited the accident site and the hospital for inspection, while a case has been registered at Munirabad police station.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus rear-ended the tractor, causing the collision. The bus driver fled the scene, and investigations are ongoing, as stated by Vantagodi. Efforts are underway to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.
