Chikkamagaluru: A total of 40 kg of gold was seized from M. C. Halli Police Checkpost in Tarikere Taluk. The gold ornaments have been seized. It is estimated to be worth around Rs. 23 Crore.
On checking the container stopped at the checkpost, it was found that the quantity of gold was being transported from Bengaluru to Shivamogga without proper documentation.
Gold worth crores of rupees has been seized at the same checkpost repeatedly.
The smuggling is allegedly carried out by jewellers who are evading taxes to the government.
