Chikkamagaluru: More than 60 empty cartridges of firearms were found in Sargodu – Tatkola Reserve Forest area of Mudigere Taluk of the District. The cartridges were found on the road in the forest area connecting Vager to Kannahalli.

In the Malnad region, coffee growers illegally keep firearms at home to protect from wild animals and crops. Guns are also used for animal hunting. However, more than 60 such empty cartridges were found in the Reserve Forest Area. These are suspected to have been used for hunting animals.

The Police has launched an investigation. On receiving the information, Forest Officials visited the spot and started an investigation into the cartridges.

How did so many cartridges get here? Who brought it? Was it used elsewhere and thrown here? Or was it used right here? And thus they have started the investigation with a view to knkw why so many cartridges have been used.

Malnad has more than 12,000 regular guns. However, it is reported that half of them are illegal firearms. Guns have been used not only to save crops and lives, but also to hunt animals and to satisfy personal animosity in society.
