Chikkamagaluru: More than 50 farmers, who were staging a sit-in protest in front of the MLA Kumaraswamy’s house demanding repair of roads, were arrested at Kelluru Village in Mudigere Taluk of the District.
The farmers’ union was protesting in front of Mudigere MLA M. P. Kumaraswamy’s house in Kelloor Village, demanding that the road connecting Aralimara, Ganjalagodu, Haluvalli, Mathikere and other Villages in Mudigere Taluk be repaired.
More than 50 activists of the farmers’ union were arrested by the police after the members of the farmers’ union did not listen to them despite being persuaded by the police.
For the last 7 to 8 years, they have been requesting for the repair of the road in Aralimara, Ganjalagodu, Haluvalli and Mathikere Villages. However, the MLA did not take any action. So, the members of the farmers’ union staged sit-in protest in front of the MLA’s house demanding immediate repair of the road.
On Friday too they had staged a sit-in protest in front of the MLA’s house. Even then the Mudigere Police arrested the activists of the farmers’ union.
During the arrest, the farmers expressed their displeasure against the MLA. The road has not been repaired for 12 years. Hundreds of requests have been made but to no avail. They shouted slogans against the MLAs asking if they would be arrested if they continued to protest.
