Chikkamagluru: One of the major reasons behind demonitising Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination notes was to fight counterfeit currencies circulating in India. But, as though the counterfeit currency racket had an inkling about the possible move of the government, in a shocking news reported from Chikkamagluru, a trader at APMC yard was duped by unidentified people who came to his shop to take change for the newly introduced Rs 2000 notes.
Ashok, the trader who has been trading vegetables in the yard had gone out of his shop to have a cup of tea, when some men came over to the shop and urged his workers to give them change for Rs 2000. The workers gave away the change enthusiastically, but when Ashok returned he realised that the Rs 2000 denomination note tendered by the miscreants was a fake note!
It was merely a superior quality coloured photocopy of the original note with some final touches here and there to make it look like the real one.
A case has been registered in City police station.
