Chikkamagalur: The age old problem of sharing Cauvery water took a different turn when the doll festivity (celebrated during Dasara) took a political turn depicting the present rift between Karnataka and Tamilnadu. Incidentally the work of Kripa Girish and her family is drawing lot attention of innumerable people from different parts of the district.
The doll display highlights the problem faced by Karnataka farmers and the adamant stance of Tamilnadu forcing Karnataka to release water. On one side dried crops within Karnataka and the teary eyed scenes of all those depending on KRS dam water for irrigation and drinking is displayed. While on the other side gleeful farmers in Tamilnadu and the green belt benefitted by adequate water storage in Mettur dam has been shown.
Doll festivities gather lot of importance during dasara where in idols are placed in individual homes and prayers for well being of the family and for clearance of obstacles are offered. However this unique doll display is drawing lot of school children and teachers to her house. Kripa Girish takes time to empower visitors and gives information on the Cauvery water dispute. Amidst multiple protests by farmers and various other organizations which led to violence, bloodshed and even deaths, the aim of this unique festivity is to pray for the settlement of Cauvery dispute!
