Hassan: A newlywed became an alleged victim of dowry harassment by her husband and his family at Malekallu, Tirupati village of Arsikere taluk in the district on Wednesday June 16.
The deceased has been identified as Bhavya (19). She had entered into marriage with Jagdish, son of Mallikarjuna of Malekallu on May 31. The victim is the daughter of Mahesh, a resident of Kanakatte, Melenahalli village, also under Arsikere taluk.
It is alleged that Jagdish’s family used to harass Bhavya to bring dowry since the day she was married and subsequently had sent her to parents’ home. However, after discussion and compromise between the husband’s and parents; family she had returned to husband’s house. However, Wednesday June 16 morning, her father-in-law Mallikarjuna made a phone call to her father, Mahesh and informed that Bhavya had died after falling into a water tank.
When Mahesh and his relatives went to Jagdish’s house, they found Bhavya’s body kept on the couch. However, the father and her relatives suspected foul play when they found blood oozing out of ears and scratch marks on hands. Soon a complaint was lodged in Arsikere Police Station. The police reached the spot and also body’s post-mortem has been conducted. Police have begun further investigation into the matter.
