Hassan: The Congress’ promise of providing 200 units of free electricity is an election gimmick, while Rs. 48,000 Crore has already been spent, said Former Minister H. D. Revanna.

Addressing a press conference, he said that the loss-making electricity supply companies (Escoms) will go bankrupt if they give electricity free of cost. “What is the loss incurred by ESCOMS in a year to provide free electricity up to 200 units to domestic users? Have the Congress leaders calculated how much financial burden it will be on the Government to make up for it?” When Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister for five years and when D. K. Shivakumar, who is the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President and also being the Power Minister, why didn’t he give free electricity?, he added.

“No matter what happens, the Congress will not come to power in the State. The Congress – BJP alliance has been going on in every election. He alleged that the Congress leaders entered into an understanding with the BJP and defeated Senior Leader Muniyappa, who was elected to the Lok Sabha for seven consecutive terms,” he said.
