Hassan: Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said that the District Police Department is taking strict action to curb illegal sand mining and will soon install CCTV cameras.
Speaking to mediapersons at his Office, he said there are a total of 22 sand depots in the District and Deputy Commissioner M. S. Archana has released funds for installation of 52 CCTV cameras at a cost of Rs. 30 lakh.
CCtV cameras will be installed at the designated place as soon as possible, he stressed.
He said sand transportation is allowed from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm as per rules but the move has been taken in the wake of widespread complaints about sand mining at night. After the installation of CCTV cameras monitoring entire 24 hours a day will be taken up as operation for the next one year.
He said CCTV cameras should be mandatorily installed at the respective depots while obtaining licence for fresh sand mining and instructions have been given to provide information round the clock. He said that the public can also be informed about illegal sand mining by calling 112 at night or by calling the number 112 to inform about illegal transportation of sand.
