Hassan: The Slum Clearance Board has released Rs. 20 lakh for the construction of a retaining wall and an additional Rs. 8 lakh has been released by the Municipality for the construction of a retaining wall at Prema Nagara layout in the 11th ward of the Town, represented by Municipal Council President Kadappa.
Alleging that the work was going on poorly, Town Municipality Council President Kadappa and the family members under the retaining wall had a fight with those who had subcontracted the work two days ago. However, it is learnt that the subcontractors did not pay heed to the President’s words.
Within two days, the wall collapsed and fortunately fell half a foot behind the house below and the JCB was got in to prevent the wall from collapsing. Prima facie, poor work and negligence on the part of contractors and engineers are evident, the concerned allege.
Surprisingly, the Municipality has given permission to build the barrier, which was earlier constructed by the Slum Clearance Board, to a height of 8 feet. In this context, the Government has to take strict action against all contractors and engineers related to this work.
Municipal Council President Kadappa arrived at the spot and addressed mediapersons. The mud is being filled on top of the retaining wall. It is possible that the barrier collapsed as it was high. On the whole, there has been negligence on the part of contractors and engineers. The matter will be examined by the higher authorities and further action will be taken,” he said.
