Hassan: There are all indications that the tussle over the selection of the JD (S) candidate from Hassan Assembly Constituency, which seemed to have been resolved after Deve Gowda’s intervention and instructions, is likely to continue.

The JD (S) was expecting the name of Senior Leader and Former Urban Development Authority Chairman K. M. Rajegowda to be finalised as the JD (S) candidate for Hassan Assembly Constituency. But the Activists are disappointed.

K. M. Swaroop Prakash and hundreds of his supporters, who hoisted the JD (S) flag after Rajegowda’s name cropped up, took out a procession in the City on Thursday March 16, after offering prayers at Adichunchanagiri Matha in the City. They travelled through the streets of Ravindranagara, Biranahalli Lake, Kuvempu Nagara Road, B. M. Road and other parts of the City to seek support.

Hundreds of Swaroop’s fans and JD (S) Leaders were seen accompanying him in the procession. JD (S) Leaders were seen shouting slogans for H. S. Prakash and H. D. Kumaraswamy.

With this, he is the strongest contender of the JD (S). Swaroop Prakash succeeded in his efforts to convey the message to JD (S) Leaders.

In all, K. M. Shivakumar, who had been in the JD (S) camp for the past two days. Rajegowda’s name is likely to back down from one of Kumaraswamy’s statements.

Speaking to mediapersons in Holenarasipura, Former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy said, “I have spoken to Rajegowda on the issue of JD (S) ticket distribution for Hassan Assembly Constituency and heard that he is mentally prepared to face the elections. His name has been discussed by some people and it is also true that it was discussed in front of Deve Gowda, he said and added that it was not final decision.

“I have already toured the District and have collected information related to Hassan Constituency in my own way and a final decision will be taken after discussing it with the National President,” he said.
