DC Shivakumar chairs review meeting on dev of Nehru Stadium

Shivamogga: Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar has directed the concerned officials to complete Phase 1 of the developmental works of the Nehru Stadium, under the Smart City scheme, in a month’s time.

In the review meeting held at his office on Wednesday, November 27, he said, “The work of laying fibre ceiling, volleyball court, drainage system, interlock system and retaining walls have been completed within a cost of Rs 2.30 crores. The construction work of the 4.3-metre-long jogging track and flood lights will be installed soon, as the work has already been delayed.”

“We have already received permission to carry out Phase 2 of the developmental works of the already-in-place hockey, handball and basketball courts at a cost of Rs 30 crores. The tender process will be completed in another month and the work will begin thereafter,” he added.

Directing the concerned officials regarding the management of the stadium, DC Shivakumar said, “The facilities must be used adequately and security deposits must be collected from the organizers for any tournament. No damage should be caused to the stadium and its facilities. The rent should be received only through online payment. CCTV cameras have already been installed at the swimming pool and in and around the stadium.”

Superintendent of Police Shantharaju, vice president of the Sports Authority of Karnataka Purushotham, assistant director of Department Youth Empowerment and Sports Manjunath and others were present.
