Shivamogga: “I’m not here to do any sort of politics. As per the rule, an FIR is registered against S N Channabasappa, as the by-elections are fast approaching and as the model code of conduct is in place, the Dasara celebrations will be simple”, said Corporation Commissioner Charulatha Somal.
Charulatha Somal had filed an FIR against the Corporator of Ward No.8, S N Channabasappa for causing obstruction to her duty. She had also complained about the same to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police and had urged for action against Channabasappa.
Charulatha Somal said, “On the account of Dasara celebrations, a festival committee was formed by the district administration. Keeping in mind the model code of conduct, the committee was later dissolved. Political representation was also ruled out.”
“I’m appointed as the Deputy Election Officer. Regarding the Dasara celebrations, Corporator S N Channabasappa had called me on my mobile phone and had expressed discontent over the decision. The manner and tone in which he spoke, had disturbed me and as per the rule, I filed a complaint with the DC and SP”, she added.
She also said that she had urged for a stringent action against him, as he had violated the model code of conduct as per the Election Commission rules.
On the other hand, S N Channabasappa had called for a press meet and addressing the media, he accused the corporation officials of having neglected the Dasara celebrations.
He further said, “Dasara is our cultural festival. Shivamogga Dasara celebration takes the second spot right after the grandeur of Mysuru Dasara. Just because the model code of Conduct is implemented, one cannot sideline cultural and traditional practices”.
“The corporation commissioner has lied. It is true that I had a conversation with Charulatha Somal, over the phone, about the grand celebration, but she has taken it personally. Condemning this, we have decided to protest against her in front of the DC office”, he added.
