Shivamogga: Shivamogga’s historical Ganesha procession moved with grandeur on September 23. The procession passed through Gandhi Bazar, Shivappanayaka circle, Ameer Ahmed circle and Nehru road. The areas were decorated with saffron coloured ribbons and flags. The entrance of the Gandhi Bazar was decorated with a model of Ram Mandir and Shivappa Nayaka statue, covered by lotus, which grabbed the attention.
People were served with snacks, drinking water, lunch and cool drinks.
This year the procession attracted a huge crowd. Foreheads were wrapped in saffron turbans and saffron shawls. Scenes of men and women buying the same were common.
Youths were seen creating a human pyramid to unfurl the saffron flag. People were seen sitting in their balcony and terrace, observing the spectacle. Some of the roads were closed for the smooth movement of the crowd and the procession. The public has credited the police department and administration for maintaining peace and order.
More than 4000 thousand police personnel were put to task. 3 additional SP, 15 DYSP, 46 Inspectors, 291 PSI, 220 ASI, 1700 Constables, 600 Home Guards, 15 KSRP, 21 DAR troupes, 1 RAF, 1 D smart and more than 90 videographers. More than 100 CCTV’s were installed as a safety measure.
Deputy Collector K Dayanand, SP Abhinav Khare, ASP Mutturaj, DYSP Sudarshan were lauded for their efforts in maintaining law and order. BY Raghavendra, KS Eshwarappa, KB Prasanna Kumar, KS Kantesh and other prominent leaders were seen leading the procession.
