Shivamogga: The Muppane-Kadavu waterway, which connects Sigandur to the famous Jog Falls, is operated by the Barje Canal. This waterway has reduced the distance for small-boat riders by 45 kilometers. Before this, the boatmen had to travel by an 85-km long route.

However, the new Muppane-Kadavu route has proved to have far-reaching effects. Travellers visiting Jog Falls can also catch a glimpse of the scenic nature park in Muppane which is just 15 km away.

The Port authorities used to oversee the operations of the inland waterways in the region.

From Muppane, the waterway flows through Hallike village and travels another 20 km to reach the Sigandur temple.

The Sharavathi backwater boat services begin at 8 am and end at 5:30 pm. This waterway also connects Sirsi, Banavasi, Kollur, and Dakshina Kannada. However, the Singalika tribal community has raised a few objections over the new route.
