Shivamogga: Manish Raj, state chief secretary of NSUI has met Prof. Veerabhadrappa Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University with several demands, here on Thursday June 24.
The appeal letter stated that due to Covid – 19, Over 3 lakh people have already died in India. Up to 1.4 lakh children are said to be infected with coronavirus in the state. Corona Third Wave is said to target the youth.
Thus, NSUI urged the state government should take appropriate action in order to safeguard the future of the students. All UG and PG students should be admitted for the next semester. The Government should take appropriate steps to ensure that education continues without interruption.
A vaccine campaign should be conducted to vaccinate all students before starting UG and PG courses. Vaccination should be given to all persons above the age of 18 years.
Due to the Covid induced lockdown, many families are in distress. It is difficult for students to pay for their college and other fees. Due to the economic crisis in the family, many students are discontinuing education and have started going for work. The state government should immediately release the scholarship for the previous year as well as for this year. Eligible students should be provided with learning equipment such as laptops and tabs. College fees should be partially deducted from the vision of the upcoming academic year. Committees should be created and reviewed at the college and university level with a view to minimizing student expenses.
