Shivamogga: What would you do if you had a power outage at your home regularly? You may contact the Electricity Board or file a complaint with the concerned authorities, and wait for them to resolve the problem. But will you ever go to the Electricity board or even think of going there to use electricity and complete your daily tasks?
A man from Mangote Village in Shivamogga District goes to the MESCOM office almost every day to seek a solution to the power outage. M. Hanumanthappa has been going to the office with a mixie for the past ten months to grind masala and charge phones. He does all of his electric work in daylight at the office and none of the officials object to it.
According to sources, Hanumanthappa started doing this after he complained about not having electricity at his home. His family only had access to electricity for 3 to 4 hours per day. Despite several requests, nothing worked in his favour.
Irated by this, Hanumanthappa called a senior MESCOM official to notify them of this issue. He explained how, due to a lack of electricity, he is unable to perform basic tasks. When the senior official became enraged, he said he could do it in the MESCOM office. Hanumanthappa has been following this advise ever since.
However, senior MESCOM officials have now served notice to ten junior staff members for allowing Hanumanthappa to utilise the Government office for his personal needs after images and videos of him went viral. A junior MESCOM engineer informed that the power supply will be restored at Hanumanthappa’s residence in a month.
