Shivamogga: Coming close on the heels of the death of 90-year-old Indira – reportedly the state’s oldest elephant – the Sakrebailu elephant camp lost its second female elephant near here on Saturday.

This 85-year-old elephant named Kapila, a contemporary of Indira, breathed her last in the camp at around 1.30 pm owing to health-related issues. Kapila was brought to Sakrebailu from Kakanakote forest area near Mysuru in 1968. She is survived by daughter Amruta and grandson Shiva in the camp.

With her death the number of elephants in the park has come down to 21. Currently, the camp has 12 male elephants and nine female elephants.
