Shivamogga: The Shivamogga airport, which is now under construction, will be named after Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, informed Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking to mediapersons after inspecting the airport’s work Bommai said, “The airport will be ready for inauguration in December. Before that, steps would be taken to finish all construction and dedicate the airport to the public.”
“A proposal to name the airport after B. S. Yediyurappa will be sent to the Union Civil Aviation Minister for approval, and the necessary orders would be issued after that. The project is part of the Udaan project,” said Bommai.
He also said that modern ATC equipment would be installed, as well as night landing facilities at the airport.
The Chief Minister went on to say that when the airport is completed, it will be a big boost to Shivamogga’s development, education, health services and industrialisation. “After Bengaluru, the airport would have the longest runway at 3,299 metres. It would be an airport that meets international standards and could land an airbus,” he added.
Bommai also recalled Yediyurappa’s significant interest in building an airport in Shivamogga and said the former CM had brought many infrastructure projects to the city.
