Shivamogga: In a shocking incident, a man dressed as a policeman stole a gold chain from a woman at Jagadamba Street in Vidyanagar in the City.

The 70-year-old woman was on her way to the SBI Bank Branch in Vidyanagar on Jagadamba Street when two unidentified men on a bike came from behind and spoke to her in Hindi. They showed her a fake ID card saying that the survey work of the area was going on and that they were police officers.

One also warned that she was not aware of increase in chain-snatching cases. The old woman replied that she would remove it when she reached home. They insisted that she removes in front of them and puts it in her bag. While taking off a 55-gram gold chain around her neck and a 30-gram bangles from her hands to put it in the bag, her focus shifted elsewhere for sometime. That is when the duo stole the gold ornaments, it is suspected.

The elderly woman then called her daughter-in-law and searched for the gold chain. Finally, she lodged a complaint with the Fort Police Station as she could not find it anywhere.
