Shivamogga: A newly-wed woman resorted to suicide by hanging herself due to dowry harassment, following which the father of the married woman lodged a complaint at Sagar Rural Police Station, alleging that it was not a suicide but a murder.
In May this year, 23-year-old Sushmita of Hosabale Village in Soraba to Ishwara of Digetikoppa. The newly-wed woman died by hanging herself within seven months of her marriage.
Hanumanthappa, the father of the girl, has lodged a complaint at Sagar Rural Police Station alleging dowry harassment by her husband’s family being the reason for daughter’s death.
According to the complaint, her husband Ishwar and mother Manjamma were harassing her to bring dowry from her parents’ house. Her husband Ishwar and mother-in-law Manjamma have been arrested and interrogated by the Police.
Hanumanthappa, the father of the deceased, said that the information of his daughter’s suicide was not given by her husband’s family but was informed by someone else. We came to know about my daughter’s death after we went to the hospital, the father alleged in the complaint.
