Shivamogga: We are working towards balancing the demand and generation of electricity so that the farmers are not affected at any stage. Rs. 16,000 Crore has been allocated for providing free electricity to the farmers of the State through the power department, said Power and Kannada and Culture Minister Sunil Kumar. He also added that the electricity is being given in the form of subsidy. In all, Rs 12 Crore was collected in Thyagarathi on Thursday November 24, he noted.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the newly constructed 110/11 KV power sub-station. ” The construction of 46 sub-centres has been initiated in the last one-and-a-half years. He said such a scheme has been formulated as a result of the firm stand taken by the Power Department to provide quality power to the farmers,” he said.

“The sub-centre is being started at seven places in Shivamogga District. Free electricity is being provided to the homes of the poor in rural areas under the ‘Illumination’ scheme. It has been decided to provide 75 units of free electricity to scheduled castes under the ‘Amrita Jyothi’ Scheme,” he said.

MP B.Y. Raghavendra said that the development works that used to take years in the previous government are happening at a rapid pace after our Government came to power. “Our Government is doing a good job of empowering the farmers. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa have done a lot of work to reassure the farmers by formulating many pro-people schemes, including the Kisan Samman Yojana.
