Shivamogga: Two male elephants died due to electrocution at Channahalli near Ayanur in the District.

The incident took place at Shivamogga Vala under Shettihalli Sanctuary limits as a result of illegal flow of electricity to a jowar field. It is alleged that the Forest Department does not seem to be bothered by the fact that illegal electricity connections are now being given in several places.

Such connections are being provided the people to kill pig and deer entering the maize fields.

The Forest Department has clarified that one is a 28-year-old elephant and the other a 20-year-old elephant. Jowar was cultivated in a hamlet belonging to Chandrappa of Chennahalli. According to the Forest Department, the elephants came during the night and tried to enter the field when they were electrocuted.
