Speaking at press conferences in Udupi and Mangaluru, K. Udayakumar Shetty, Mangaluru Division in-charge, and Rajgopal Rai, spokesperson for the Dakshina Kannada unit of the party, expressed deep concern over the recent murder of 19-year-old Anjali Mohan Ambiger in Hubballi on May 15 by a youth identified as Girish Sawanth. They condemned this incident, which occurred amidst the lingering shock of the murder of student Neha Hiremath on a college campus in Hubballi.

Mr. Shetty, addressing the press in Udupi, criticized the Congress-led state government for its failure to safeguard innocent lives, asserting that Chief Minister Siddaramiah and Home Minister Parameshwara should take moral responsibility for these tragic events. He urged the government to transfer the investigation of these murders to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), emphasizing the deteriorating state of law and order in Karnataka.

Highlighting the rise in atrocities against women over the past year, Mr. Shetty lamented the pervasive climate of fear gripping the state, attributing it to the incompetence of the current administration.

Echoing these sentiments in Mangaluru, Mr. Rai cited recent incidents such as the murder of a Dalit in Yadgir and the assault of a woman in a Belagavi village as further evidence of the worsening law and order situation. He also accused the Congress government of allowing the resurgence of the drug mafia in Dakshina Kannada by transferring police officials who had previously managed to control it.

Mr. Rai further criticized the Congress government’s track record, drawing parallels between the current administration and its governance in 2013, alleging a pattern of violence and insecurity under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s leadership.

The BJP’s demands underscored growing public concerns over the state of law and order, calling into question the effectiveness and accountability of the current government.
