
Drunk Driving Claims Two Lives in Jeppinamogaru Crash
Mangaluru: A tragic road accident occurred on National Highway 66 near Jeppinamogaru in the early hours of June 18, prompting the Mangaluru South Traffic Police to file a case.
The crash took place around 1:30 am when a car bearing registration number KA-19-MN-6698 lost balance and struck a road median. Two passengers, Aman Rao (22), who was behind the wheel, and Omshree (24), died instantly. Two others in the vehicle, Ashish (23) and Jerry (23), a foreign national, sustained injuries and are receiving medical care.
Initial findings from the investigation confirm that Aman Rao was driving under the influence of alcohol and was speeding at the time of the accident. A case has been filed under Crime No. 152/2025 with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), 106(1)) and the Indian Motor Vehicles Act (Sections 183 and 185). Further inquiry is ongoing.
Police Advisory Issued
In response, the Mangaluru City Police have released an advisory stressing the severe risks associated with intoxicated and high-speed driving.
Driving while drunk drastically increases the likelihood of deadly accidents, inflicting lasting emotional and financial damage on families.
Under Section 185 of the MV Act, driving under the influence carries a fine of up to ₹10,000. Overspeeding, addressed under Section 183, can result in penalties of ₹1,000 to ₹2,000, depending on the vehicle type.
Authorities have urged all motorists to prioritize safety, obey speed limits, and never drink and drive.
