Family in Peril as House Teeters on Collapse After Cyclone

Heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Fengal have left Umesh’s residence near the Ballabagh-Bejai road on the brink of collapse. A section of the storm drain adjacent to the house gave way, exposing a critical pillar and rendering the structure dangerously unstable.

The incident occurred on December 3, leaving Umesh, his wife, and their two children unable to safely enter their home, as the area near the entrance has also caved in. The family now faces a precarious situation with no clear resolution in sight.

On December 4, the local corporator visited the site and assured Umesh that immediate actions would be taken to prevent further damage. As a temporary measure, sandbags are set to be placed around the foundation. However, no arrangements have been made to relocate the family from the compromised structure, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and fear.

This incident underscores the urgent need for structural safety measures in areas prone to natural calamities, as well as prompt rehabilitation support for affected families.
