Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has announced Dr. Thumbay Moideen, son of renowned community leader late B. Ahmed Haji Mohiudeen, as one of this year’s recipients of the Karnataka State Rajyotsava Award. An alumnus of St. Aloysius College in Mangaluru, Dr. Moideen is widely recognized in the UAE and internationally for his significant contributions to higher education and healthcare.

Dr. Moideen is the founder of the THUMBAY Group, established in 1997, a diversified global conglomerate with ventures across health education, healthcare services, and medical research. In 1998, he made history as the first Indian to be invited by the rulers of Ajman to establish a medical college in the UAE, which has since evolved into a full-fledged university. This institution today includes a network of hospitals, clinics, medical centers, and pharmacies across the UAE.

Beyond his achievements in education and healthcare, Dr. Moideen also holds a stake in Spearhead Media Pvt Ltd, the parent company of News Karnataka, underscoring his commitment to media and community development.

A recipient of an Honorary Fellowship from the International Medical Sciences Academy (IMSA) and an honorary doctorate from Amity University, Dr. Moideen has been featured in publications like Forbes Middle East and Arabian Business.

The Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, the state’s second-highest civilian honor, is awarded annually on November 1, Kannada Rajyotsava, recognizing individuals for their contributions to the arts, education, industry, literature, science, sports, medicine, social service, and public affairs.
