Mangaluru: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police took four individuals into custody for attempting to smuggle MDMA, a banned synthetic drug commonly known as ecstasy.

Acting on a specific tip-off, the police apprehended the accused near Deralakatte while they were allegedly transporting the illegal substance. A total of 270 grams of MDMA worth Rs. 6.5 lakh, a Toyota Corolla car, a digital weighing machine, and four mobile phones – with a combined value of Rs. 14.85 lakh – were seized during the operation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as, Mohammed Amin Rafih (23), resident of Bijai Area, Mangaluru, Mohammed Sinan Abdulla (23), resident of Bandsale House, Addur village, Mangaluru, Mohammed Nuhman (22), resident of Bava Mahal, Port Road, Mohammed Shafeel (23), resident of Kandimar House, Boliyar village in Ullal Taluk.

Police suspect the accused procured the MDMA from Bengaluru and intended to sell it within the city, targeting residents, students from Karnataka and Kerala. An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend any potential accomplices.

According to the police, the motive for selling these drugs appears to be financing a lavish lifestyle. Mohammed Amin Rafi has a prior arrest record for drug smuggling in 2021 by the Mangaluru South Police.

The successful operation was led by CCB police officials ACP Geetha Kulkarni, Inspector Shyam Sundar HM, and PSI Sharanappa Bhandari, along with their team.
