Mangaluru Girl Sets Yoga Record With Hour-Long Kapotasana Pose
Mangaluru: Eight-year-old Sharanya Sharath, a student of Class II at St. Mary’s Educational Institution, Panneer, has etched her name in both the India Book of Records and the World Wide Book of Records by holding the challenging Kapotasana yoga pose for an impressive 1 hour and 2 minutes—shattering the previous record of 15 minutes held by Harinita B.S. from Tamil Nadu.
The remarkable feat was announced by A. Chandrahas Shetty, an amateur swimmer, during a press conference in the city. He proudly shared that Sharanya’s achievement marks a significant milestone in youth yoga, particularly for someone so young.
Sharanya has been trained under Kavita Ashok, an international yoga expert and record holder herself, who began coaching her from an early age. Her dedication and discipline have now placed her in the spotlight of national and global recognition.
Key contributors and supporters present at the press briefing included school principal Sister Mezhi A.C., teacher Vinuta Praveen, Mangaluru City Corporation swimming pool manager Ramesh Bijai, and Chandrashekhar Surikumeri, a previous swimming record-holder.
Also attending the event were Ramesh Bijai, Chandrashekhar Rai Surikumeri, Joint Secretary Sister Celine, Vice Principals Sister Santosh Mary and Sonia J, along with yoga mentor Kavita Ashok and Manoj Kumar.
Sharanya’s record not only highlights her personal excellence but also inspires young talents across the region to pursue holistic practices like yoga with focus and passion.
