Belthangady: A young man in Belthangady found himself the target of a disturbing prank when a group of miscreants harassed him in the local market, leading to an attempt on his life later that evening.

Sahil (21), the son of Muhammed Haif from Panakaje in Belthangady taluk, visited the Santhekatte market on the afternoon of November 21, dressed in a new and innovative style of pants. His unusual outfit, however, caught the attention of a group of youths, who decided to make his day a nightmare.

According to reports, the group—identified as Shabir (Jaibharath), Aneesh Panakaje, and others from Adarsh Nagar in Laila village—physically restrained Sahil by holding both of his hands behind his back. They then proceeded to sew a needle into his pants with a gunny bag needle while filming the entire incident. The video was subsequently shared on social media, further humiliating the young man.

The online trolling and public shaming left Sahil mentally disturbed. Tragically, later that evening, he attempted suicide by ingesting a poisonous substance at his home. He was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The incident has raised concerns about online bullying and the dangers of such pranks, particularly when they cause severe emotional distress. Authorities are investigating the matter, and action is expected to be taken against the perpetrators.
