Operation Tiger’s First Step, Clears Unauthorized Shops Near Ladyhill Circle
On July 29, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) executed ‘Operation Tiger,’ clearing unauthorized petty shops along Mannagudda Road near Ladyhill Circle and KPT on Airport Road. This action addressed growing complaints about street hawkers and street food vendors causing difficulties for pedestrians and raising health concerns.
Approximately 25 to 30 petty shops, including those selling tender coconut, fast food, pani puri, and omelettes, were vacated. Four individuals who attempted to obstruct the operation were detained by the police. The operation was overseen by MCC Deputy Commissioner Rekha Shetty, Health Officer Dr. Manjaiah Shetty, and officials from the revenue department.
Security for the operation was provided by personnel from Barke and Kadri police stations. The clearing of these shops is part of the MCC’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and hygiene.
Earlier, Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur announced the resumption of ‘Operation Tiger’ on July 29, citing increasing complaints about street vendors. The operation aims to maintain pedestrian pathways and address public health concerns.
This move by the MCC underscores its commitment to improving the urban environment and addressing the concerns of the city’s residents. The operation was met with mixed reactions, with some supporting the cleanup and others expressing sympathy for the displaced vendors.
