Mangaluru: Non-profit organisation OSAAT (One School at a Time) has initiated two significant infrastructure projects to upgrade government educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada. On Sunday, the organisation conducted a groundbreaking ceremony at Government Junior College (high school section) in Venur, Belthangady, where it will construct three large classrooms, two regular classrooms, a girls’ toilet block and a pink room. The project, valued at approximately ₹1.5 crore, will benefit more than 563 students.

Major boost for Venur high school students

According to OSAAT member Balakrishna Rao, the Venur initiative marks the NGO’s 127th school project. He said the school’s administration and teachers have shown strong commitment towards institutional development, making it an ideal candidate for upgraded infrastructure.
Funding for the project has been raised through donations from Vijaya and Vasantharam Somayaji, USA, and another anonymous donor from the United States. Construction is expected to be completed within ten months.

Sullia govt PU college gets new building

Earlier in November, OSAAT inaugurated a newly constructed school building worth ₹1 crore at Government PU College in Sullia. The project supports 638 students and 18 teachers, with donors Sandhya and Guru Pangal (USA) and Nirmala Jay Pullur (Bengaluru) contributing to the initiative.
The construction, which began on 20 November 2024, was completed on 11 November 2025. The upgraded facility aims to provide a safe, functional environment to help the school emphasise academic and holistic student development.

Strengthening rural education infrastructure

These two projects reflect OSAAT’s continued focus on strengthening rural government schools by providing modern and safe learning environments. With the completion of the Venur and Sullia initiatives, the organisation has now executed four projects in Dakshina Kannada.
Officials and community members believe these infrastructural improvements will have a long-term positive impact on students’ educational outcomes and overall school development.
