In Mangaluru, a total of 130 primary and 84 high school teachers have been transferred to various schools within Dakshina Kannada during this year’s general transfer process, which concluded recently. Out of 597 primary school teacher applicants, 257 were absent for counseling, 193 applications were rejected, and 130 were considered. For high school teachers, 400 applications were received, and only 84 were transferred.
The transfer process has faced a nearly two-month delay, typically concluding before the academic year starts. Venkatesha Subraya Patagara, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), noted that district-to-district or division-wise transfers began on Friday and are expected to be completed within a week.
Before the counseling, the primary section had vacancies for 1,056 assistant masters, 140 headmasters, 116 physical education teachers, and 9 special teachers. The secondary section had 291 assistant master vacancies, 42 for physical education teachers, and 6 for special teachers.
Patagara stated that 32.3% of primary section applications were rejected, and only 21.8% were accepted. Many candidates declined the transfer due to not receiving their preferred school or location. The high school section saw similar trends.
Patagara emphasized that teachers who accepted the transfers would report to their new schools promptly to commence teaching. Addressing the trend of teachers moving out of Dakshina Kannada, he mentioned that the process is ongoing, making it premature to comment.
Despite widespread criticism for the delayed transfer process, officials assure that academic activities will not be hampered.
