In a tragic incident on Wednesday, December 11, a truck crashed into an Omni car, leaving two people dead and three others injured. The accident occurred at around 2 pm near a highway, roughly 200 km from Surat, Gujarat.
The victims were part of a group resting in the vehicle during their walkathon from Mangaluru to Delhi, a journey aimed at demanding immediate justice for rape survivors. The collision claimed the lives of Moosa Sharief from Charmadi, Dakshina Kannada, and Praveen, who were killed instantly.
The truck, after violently hitting the parked Omni, caused extensive damage before fleeing the scene. The other three passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Moosa Sharief, a prominent activist connected with the KRS party, was also a leader in the Karnataka Sarathis Trade Union. The walkathon was intended to bring attention to the rise in sexual assault cases and deliver a petition to the prime minister advocating strict and swift action against perpetrators. Their efforts were driven by the need to emphasize justice under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative.
The tragic loss of life has cast a shadow over their mission, sparking outrage and sorrow. This accident not only ended two lives but also underscored the dangers faced by activists in their relentless pursuit of social change.
