Mangaluru: A tragic drowning incident occurred at Sasihithlu Mooda beach near Surathkal on Sunday evening, claiming the life of a 23-year-old youth while three others were rescued by alert local fishermen.

Deceased identified as Padupanambur resident

The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Sameer (23), son of late Anwar and a resident of Kajakathota in Padupanambur. Sameer was part of a group of six cousins who had gone to the beach for an outing when the tragedy struck.

Locals rescue three others

Those rescued have been identified as Aiman (23), son of Abubakar of Padupanambur Kajakatota, Rayees (22) of Kajakatota, and Fazil, son of Hanif from Haleyangadi Bolluru. Local fishermen responded quickly to the cries for help and managed to save them from being pulled deeper into the sea.

According to police reports, Sameer, Aiman, and Fazil were caught in strong waves while playing in the water. Fishermen pulled them out and rushed them to a private hospital in Mukka for treatment. Unfortunately, Sameer could not be revived.

Police register case, issue safety advisory

The Surathkal police inspected the site and registered a case in connection with the incident. Authorities have once again cautioned visitors against venturing into deep waters, especially during rough sea conditions, which have increased the risk of drowning along coastal belts.
