Udupi: “As promised earlier 3000 hectares farm land is provided with water from April 1st from Varahi Irrigation project, 18.2 km in Right Bank Canal, 8km in Left Bank Canal which is considered as experimental on first phase”, said Minister for urban development Vinaya Kumar Sorake after reviewing the Varahi irrigation project here yesterday.

“Around 24 km of work in the distributor canal is also finished. It was a long pending demand from the farmers. Now the issue raised by the farmers is to have a detailed enquiry in the delay of the project and the corruption that took place over 35 years. I assure that a detailed inquiry without any bias will be conducted”, the minister added

Another important issue is related to land acquisition, farmers demanded that a scientific verification be carried out. This will be conducted and a booklet will be released with complete survey report and project plan, the minister assured.

The government assured the best compensation for the people who lost their lands and houses.
