MLC Poojary on caste census: Remove code system from the caste list

Udupi: Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, on Saturday, while addressing the media said that the caste census survey is a welcoming move by the State government however allocation of codes and serial numbers for castes and sub-castes will surely create confusions.

He added that in the caste list, the castes and sub-castes are not segregated properly. The code numbers had been given to each caste and sub-caste, but the sub-castes were not listed below the castes. If the enumerators get confused with the code of sub caste, the entire information will go wrong and will be set for another cast.

As per the request of the BJP leaders Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya agreed to exclude code system but in final forms they have included it. The government had not kept up its word, he stated.

Thus Poojary urged the State government not to create confusion and remove the code system from the social and educational survey, as it would confuse both the people and enumerators.

He also criticized that State government agreed to the increase the salary of contractual staff nurse from Rs. 4500 to 14000, and now instead of increasing the salary they have been put under NRHM and increased 8000. Once the project is done their position will be under threat.

He demanded UT Khader – Health Minister to keep the promise and hike the salary.
