Mandya: Congress MLA P.M. Narendraswamy of Malavalli vehemently opposes the Karnataka government’s move to supply water to Tamil Nadu and criticizes the diversion of water while neglecting local concerns.
Participating in the city’s farmers’ protest, Narendraswamy stressed that various governments, including the Congress, have been ineffective in securing justice for Karnataka in the Cauvery matter. He emphasized that despite his current position within the ruling party, his strong conviction as a native of Mandya compels him to assert that the government should cease the diversion of water to Tamil Nadu. Narendraswamy expressed that neither the legal framework nor governmental actions have successfully resolved the challenges confronting local farmers. Therefore, he stands at the protest as a son of a farmer, momentarily setting aside his role as an MLA.
Narendraswamy conveyed his preparedness to make sacrifices for the betterment of Mandya during this crucial period. He mentioned discussing the issue with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who informed him that they were bound by the Supreme Court’s directives. He urged all the states involved to focus on adopting a distress-sharing formula instead of engaging in disputes over the allocation of Cauvery river water.
