7-Year-Old Girl Harassed by Recovery Agents Over ₹1,280 Loan Default
A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Jalahalli village, where recovery agents from Bajaj Micro Finance allegedly harassedhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harassment a 7-year-old girl over a minor loan default of ₹1,280. The incident has ignited public anger and raised urgent questions about the unchecked aggression of microfinance recovery tactics in the district.
Naveen and Pramila, the girl’s parents, had taken a ₹30,000 loan to sustain their household and had been making regular payments for over 13 months. This month, a four-day delay in repayment led to extreme intimidation from loan recovery staff.
The agents reportedly tracked down the couple’s daughter, Chitra, in a nearby village and slapped and verbally abused her, demanding to know where her mother was. One agent allegedly said, “Show me your mother. I’ll give you the money in the evening, but I want it now.”
The child was left terrified and traumatized, and the incident only came to light during a Mysuru Children’s Committee intervention conducted four days later.
Shockingly, this act of harassment occurred despite standing orders from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to regulate microfinance operations and protect vulnerable citizens. Villagers claim that finance agents are acting with impunity, showing no regard for government directives or basic human decency.
The incident has triggered calls for immediate legal action, stricter microfinance regulations, and child protection protocols to prevent such abuse in the future.
