Mysuru: Forest Department elephant Abhimanyu will lead Dasara Jambu Savari elephant brigade. As the State Government has decided to celebrate simple Dasara owing to Covid – 19, the Forest Department has prepared to send 8 elephants for Jambu Savari. Last year, only 5 elephants were sent from the department.

The Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Karikalan has prepared the list of elephants and had sent it to Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and the PCCF permitted to send 5 male and 3 female elephant team.

The elephants will start journey from Veeranahosalli elephant camp on September 13 after the pooja and later they will reach Aranya Bhavana.  September 13 is observed as Bhadrapada Saptami day, which is considered as auspicious for elephant journey. In all 16 elephants’ team will be sent to palace after offering pooja.

Speaking to media persons, District in- charge Minister S. T. Somashekar said that Abhimanyu (56) would carry golden howdah. The other elephants are Gopala Swamy (38), Vikrama (58), Kaveri (44) Dhananjaya (45), Ashwathama (34), Chaitra (48) and Lakshmi (20).

Lakshmi is the youngest while Ashwathama is participating for the first time in Jambu Savari.
