Mysuru: After two tigers were caught successfully by the forest department, now it’s the turn of crocodile to stray out. A nearly 7 foot crocodile had surfaced at Nishat Bagh just outside the Mysuru Palace. It is suspected to have been washed away from Karanji Lake due to heavy rain that pounded the city late on October 10 night.

After getting information from the Nishat Bagh personnel, the forest department officials including Akram Pasha who on Monday and Tuesday successfully tranquilized two tigers, arrived here to catch the reptile. Akram along with four more personnel took just 30 minutes to tie the crocodile. With the help of big ropes they tied its mouth and later transported it in a vehicle. The forest authorities took a decision to release it into Ranganthitu Birds Sanctuary where crocodiles are found more in numbers.

Senior Veterinarian Dr. Nagaraj who was a part of the crocodile operation said, “Soon after getting information, I along with our staff members dashed into the park and made arrangements to capture the crocodile. The nearly 2 mtr crocodile which is aged four to five years was captured and later released into Rangathitu Birds Sanctuary.” According to sources, in Mysuru, crocodiles are found in Karanji, Kukkarahalli and Dalvoy lakes. RFO Devaraj was also a part of the operation.

Akram Pasha who is in the forest department for the past 18 years is involved in catching many animals including elephants, leopards, tigers and bears. He is working as an assistant to Senior Veterinarian Dr. Nagaraj who too has lot of confidence in Akram’s skills. Akram is also well versed in tying the howdah to the Ambari elephant.
