Mysuru: The temple authorities of the famous Shri Nanjundeshwara Temple in Nanjanagudu near here have removed the Bhadrakali idol as it was damaged.

The idol was installed on left side of the Veerabhadreshwara idol and the Dakshabrahma idol is on right side. The stone idols were being offered daily pooja.

The devotees expressed anguish as the authorities should follow rituals to remove the idol which is said to be installed during erstwhile Chola dynasty kings. It is said that during the construction of the temple 64 Nayanar idols and 18 Shiva Avatar idols were installed 200 – 300 years ago. Most of the idols installed in the Nanjundeshwara temple is shaky after it lost Ashtabandha power. The temple authorities too did not take steps to refix the idols.

When contacted Temple Executive Officer Ravindra told that the idol has been removed as it is broken. He said a proposal has been sent to Archaeological Department to reinstall the new idol through
Ashtabandha. The temple has monthly income of more than Rs. 1 Crore, but the dereliction of officials has hurt sentiments of devotees.
